Venue: George Scott’s Snooker Club

Entries are now open to current MDBSA Members for this years prestigious Merseyside Open, which was first won back in 1938. Non-members will be invited to enter from next week.

The competition is open to all amateur players. The format is on a knockout basis with all matches in the Prelim / 1st & 2nd Rounds played over best of five frames. From the round of 16 onwards, all matches will be played over Best of Seven Frames, including the Final.

Dates to note:

Top Half of Draw: Sun 13th Nov
Lower Half of Draw: Sun 20th Nov
Semis and Final: Sun 4th Dec

Entry Fee:
£15 (MDBSA Members)
£20 (Non Member)

The Closing Date for entries is Mon 1st November at midday. The draw will also be made on that day.

Merseyside Snooker Update!!

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all Merseyside Snooker and Billiards is suspended until further notice. Any remaining league games and competitions will be postponed and hopefully played at a later date. All national county games are also suspended until further notice. 

Our association will follow government advice and will update our members as soon as we can on how the snooker and billiards season can be completed safely. We also urge all our members to stay safe during this unprecedented time.

Ian Brumby Masters Win

A Successful Defence for Brumby!!!

Ian Brumby made a triumphant defense of his Mersey Masters Title after defeating Wayne Brown in the final 5-2. 

Brumby had earlier defeated Nathan Morris in the semi final 4-2 while Brown defeated John Wignall in the other semi-final 4-1. 

Brumby\’s victory added to last year\’s success aswell as his titles in 2010 and 2013 making him a 4 time winner of the event, the most successful player since it\’s inception in 2010. His victory also signifies a fantastic year adding this title to the Liverpool Championship won back in September. Ian has now won 3 of the last 4 Merseyside major events.

Leroy Williams Wins Again!!

Leroy Williams\’ domination of the World Disability Billiards & Snooker continued this month with another emphatic victory in the Stockport Open.

His 4-0 victory over Christopher Goldsworthy in the Group 6b final in Stockport ensured Leroy\’s 3rd victory in a row and an incredible 5th victory in just 12 months. Leroy is without doubt Number 1 ranked in his category at the moment and he will take this confidence into the Belgian Open in March.

Champion of Champions Final Decided!!

A repeat of the Ormskirk individual final will take place in the Champion of Champions final on the 2nd of February as Gareth Hibbott and Paul Williams both got through to the final of the event last Sunday at George Scotts. 

It will be Paul\’s second final in a row and he will be aiming for a second champions title. Gareth will be aiming for a third title.

The match will be best of 7 frames and will take place after the team champion of champions final between Ormskirk and Formby.

Mersey Masters 2020 Continues This Sunday!!

The main group stages of the Mersey Masters gets underway this Sunday. 48 players will congregate on George Scott\’s to determine who will win the first Major title of this decade. 

4 players will qualify from each group, to determine the last 32 of the competition. The second round of group stage matches will be played on the 9th February.

Can anybody stop Ian Brumby defending the title he won in 2019, or can John Welsh win a second major in a row. Or will there be a new name on the trophy this year.

8 Finalists Determined From North West Open Qualifiers!!

George Scott \’s was the venue on Sunday, as we whittled down 32 players to 8 finalists after a series of hard fought matches was played over the course of the day.

The Lancaster qualifiers will be played in February to determine the other 8 finalists to make the last 16. Those qualifiers will include defending champion Simon Blackwell.

The finals will be played on Sunday 5th April.

Mersey Masters Begins This Weekend!!!

Merseyside’s flagship event begins this weekend when the 10th edition of George Scott’s Mersey Masters gets underway. 

On Saturday and Sunday, qualfying starts and 35 players will be vying for 21 places in the main draw. The qualifiers see some fantastic players including several county players.

County Snooker Underway!!

County Snooker got underway for all three of our sides in November with wins in the gold and silver section respectably. 

Merseyside A won all 3 of their games including a derby victory over our B side. The B side however, have still put themselves within reach of qualification after a victory over Leicestershire. The big highlight of the weekend was a magnificent 132 break from Ste Whittaker. 

The C Side got off to a very solid start with one win and one loss in the silver section in Leicester.

All sides play the second half of the group stages in February and March

John Wlesh Winner

John Welsh Wins Merseyside Open

John Welsh claimed his 5th Merseyside Open victory after defeating Josh Mulholland 4-3 in a four hour epic final. 

With the win, John has his first Open title since 2001. Incredibly it is his fifth open title spanning over 30 years.

John made his way to the final by defeating Pat Horne in the quarter finals and Neal Jones in the semi finals. Josh Mulholland was in red hot form defeating Alex Millington in the quarter finals and Lee Stephens in the Semi Finals, compiling 3 breaks over 70 in the process.

Josh also claimed the high break prize with a break of 100.
